  17. <p>     Basketball's Magic Johnson became a sudden symbol of the
  18. battle against AIDS when he revealed that he has the HIV virus.
  19. Now he is getting a crash course in the prejudice resulting
  20. from such honesty. Dr. Brian Sando, medical chief of
  21. Australia's Olympic basketball team, suggested last week that
  22. Aussie players boycott games against the Americans if Magic was
  23. among them. Sando's quackish excuse: Johnson could pass the
  24. virus to other athletes. Dave Gavitt, president of U.S.A.
  25. Basketball, insisted "Magic Johnson's eligibility for the 1992
  26. Olympic Games is not in question." But no need to throw another
  27. bigot on the barbie: Australian Olympic officials decreed there
  28. would be no boycott. Elsewhere, Johnson's name remained magic.
  29. He handily qualified for a spot in February's All-Star game. And
  30. he is one of the famous faces in Michael Jackson's new video,
  31. Remember the Time, to be released next week.
